Living in Tenerife. A price guide.
Compared to the European standard, the cost of living in Spain and specially in the Canary Islands is low-range. The amount you will need to a make a living there depends on your spending habits. Anyway I offer you a price list that may help you (updated to 2008). Remember that the currency in Spain is the Euro (€). 1 cup of white coffee: 0.90€ 1 Spanish breakfast: 4€ 1 litre milk: 1.10€ McDonalds menu: 5.90€ 1 pizza: 8€ 1 dinner in an average restaurant: 18€ Supermarkets have all of the normal essential European and Spanish foods. There is also a great variety of international restaurants, but Local canarian restaurants are still far cheaper that most European ones. Tenerife mains water is perfectly safe, containing minerals and calcium. You can buy bottled drinking water, available anywhere in plastic bottles. 5 litres water bottle: 1.20€ 1.5 litre water bottle: 0.50€ Enternaiment 1 can of beer in pub: 2€ 1 cinema ticket: 6€ 1 discotheque ticket: 8€ The Canary Islands are very well known for their good climate, which makes them one of the most popular tourist destination in Europe. Tenerife has the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter for virtually anywhere on earth. The minimum and maximum annual average air temperatures in Tenerife are 15ºC (59ºF) in winter and 26ºC (79ºF) sin summer, thus enjoying on of the world's best and most delightful climates. The island offers an surprising variety of micro-climatic zones, enabling people to almost choose their own climate, depending on the place chosen to live. Generally the north of the island is much humid and greener than the southern part. You can go from the snow-capped Mount Teide to enjoy a swim in the beach in a hour's ride. Finally, don't forget to buy or bring a swimming costume to enjoy their beaches. 1 male swimsuit: 30€ 1 female swimsuit: 40€ |
